Local firefighter heroism honored Last Updated: July 23, 2010
James Christy III, a firefighter at Sumner County Fire 9 who also works as a Wichita fireman, was one of 12 Wichita firefighters recognized by Firehouse Magazine with a Heroism Award for saving a man's life in September. According to The Wichita Eagle, Christy and 11 other firefighters from four units responded to a fire on South Rock Road. They entered the burning building and found a man in bed. Several firefighters carried the man out of the basement apartment. He wasn't breathing. They administered oxygen and performed C.P.R. while waiting for E.M.S. to arrive. The 12 firefighters were presented the award at a Wichita City Council meeting July 5. |
